University of Kent - Mungos

JSH Project Management completely transformed the existing Mungo’s bar and bistro at the University into a venue with wow factor and cutting edge design. The brief was driven by the site trading as a café during the day offering hot meals and drinks, turning into a bar in the evening and later becoming a nightclub on the campus.

This project was developed with some fundamental requirements from the client. The existing Mungo’s was already a successful venue and this needed to be taken into consideration in the design brief, making sure we didn’t distance current student users. JSH Project Management also had to work around the existing services within the college where Mungo’s is, and make sure that structures were not comprised or adapted due to their age. The budgets did not allow for any major structural changes to be included in the development.

We submitted a basic layout with associated costs for their approval before bringing on board a designer who was flexible in the final finishes used to allow us to work within tight budgets. Other works included putting in a new beer cellar, and a large raised decking area outside, with JSH Project Management coordinating all the necessary permissions including planning permissions for this sensitive location. We were on site for a total of 4 weeks from the start of the project to the handover.
